This mural of Disney Legend Harper Goff was commissioned in late 2018 by the Brinkman development group for the creation of The Exchange, a revitalized section of Old Town in Fort Collins, Colorado. Goff grew up in Fort Collins, as did this mural’s artist Chris Bates. Bates uses his unique “finetoon” style of art which tells the story of the subject’s life using detailed interior images with black & white line drawings that make up the entire image. Here, the upper section comes together to form Goff’s face, while the lower section shows Fort Collins Firehouse, one of many buildings in the town that inspired the design of Disneyland’s Main Street USA. Details from Goff’s life on this piece of street art include a depiction of Walt and Harper’s 1951 meeting, Disneyland’s City Hall, Goff’s band Firehouse Five Plus Two, the Nautilus & an Oscar statuette from 1954’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in which Goff led the production design, and a Disney Legends Award statuette, among other major milestones. You can find this art on Pine Street, directly to the right of the entrance to the Crooked Stave Taproom. You can also find Harper Goff Alley (unveiled in 2018) […]
