This mural of Disney Legend Harper Goff was commissioned in late 2018 by the Brinkman development group for the creation of The Exchange, a revitalized section of Old Town in Fort Collins, Colorado. Goff grew up in Fort Collins, as did this mural’s artist Chris Bates. Bates uses his unique “finetoon” style of art which tells the story of the subject’s life using detailed interior images with black & white line drawings that make up the entire image. Here, the upper section comes together to form Goff’s face, while the lower section shows Fort Collins Firehouse, one of many buildings in the town that inspired the design of Disneyland’s Main Street USA. Details from Goff’s life on this piece of street art include a depiction of Walt and Harper’s 1951 meeting, Disneyland’s City Hall, Goff’s band Firehouse Five Plus Two, the Nautilus & an Oscar statuette from 1954’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in which Goff led the production design, and a Disney Legends Award statuette, among other major milestones. You can find this art on Pine Street, directly to the right of the entrance to the Crooked Stave Taproom. You can also find Harper Goff Alley (unveiled in 2018) […]

Muppet Dawn is a sculpture installed in Magruder Park in 2016, near where Jim Henson’s family lived in the late 1940s. The sculpture by artist Bill Culbertson (who also did some design work for Disney including The Dino Institute logo relief sculptures) honors Henson’s earliest work in TV by featuring characters from Sam and Friends on a flower planter. Among the characters is Kermit, who made his debut on the show before going on to become the leader of The Muppets franchise (now owned by The Walt Disney Company). Considered the oldest church in New York state, the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow was constructed in 1685. The church was featured in Washington Irving’s novel, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow which was adapted by Disney for the second half of the 1949 animated film, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. The church depicted in the animated film resembles this real-life one almost exactly. The church’s 2.5-acre cemetery is the haunting grounds of the headless horseman, as well as the final resting place of Washington Irving. Irving was buried here in 1859 after suffering a heart attack in his nearby Sunnyside estate. Address: 430 Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 Visitor Information: Visit Sleepy Hollow
