Inside this subway station stands a series of mosaic panels along the walls titled Alice: The Way Out by artist Liliana Porter.
The panels were installed in 1994 showing silhouetted figures portraying characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, the inspiration for Disney’s Alice In Wonderland (1951) and subsequent live-action versions: Alice In Wonderland (2010) and Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016).
The artwork can be seen inside the number 1 train line’s 50th Street station on both the uptown and downtown sides of the station. While the artwork is open to the public, paid entrance into the station is required to fully view the panels.
