The Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that is now permanently moored in Long Beach harbor. Today, you can visit the ship and even stay overnight as it’s been converted into a unique, full-service hotel.
The Walt Disney Company actually acquired the ship in 1988 as part of a plan to re-purchase the Disneyland Hotel. With this, they also had hopes of buidling out a “DisneySea” park in the area. When these plans fell apart, The Oriental Land Company (owners of Tokyo Disney Resort) picked it up as Tokyo DisneySea, re-creating a version of this majestic steamship in their park dubbed the S.S. Columbia.
Walt Disney himself often sailed on the ship, making transatlantic voyages several times before the advent of passenger jets.
