Wadi Rum is a desert valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock of southern Jordan. Its unique landscape is a desirable filming location for desert scenes.

In the Star Wars universe, this desert was used for scenes portraying the moon Jedha in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). It can also be seen in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019), playing the role of Pasaana, the planet where the crew finds a joyous Festival of Ancestors before taking off in speeders and discovering that Stormtroopers can fly… They fly now!?

In 2019’s live-action remake of Aladdin, the Wadi Rum plays the role of the Agrabah desert, where Aladdin discovers the Cave of Wonders.
